Physicians program
Summer Camp Physician — Each week over 300 high school kids load up and head out for the best week of their lives. To provide the best possible care, we need physicians to help us meet the medical needs of the campers and summer volunteers at camp. All camp physicians, spouses, and children ages 17 and younger are invited to stay at camp during the week of service at no cost.
School Season Opportunities — We are also in need of medical providers for camps during the school season months at LoneHollow Ranch. These camps are shorter (usually over a weekend), quieter, and more relaxing than summer camping. Contact us if you are interested in this opportunity.
The camp physician's primary role is to provide timely triage assessment of guests who require medical care for an injury or an illness during their week at camp. They direct the course of action in the event of an emergency and decide which patients need to be transferred to the closest clinic or hospital. LoneHollow Ranch has two EMTs or Nurses serving at camp throughout the summer alongside the Camp Physician volunteering each week. Along with the physician, the medical team staffs the camp infirmary for thirty minutes after each meal and at the cabin bell to care for minor injuries, illness, and to administer medications. The physician is on call 24/7 for any emergencies. The physician must also adequately document medical treatment given to guests. At no time should any physician practice medicine that falls outside of their medical license and level of experience and training.
The camp physician must be currently licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas. The state of Texas does provide a Visiting Physician Temporary Permit. Further requirements can be found at the Texas Medical Board website.
Out of state nurses are also eligible to serve if licensed in a state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
To Apply:
First, check availability. Then complete a Camp Medical Professionals Application.
Wranglers
During the school season, LoneHollow Ranch relies heavily on volunteers to help keep camp running. We call these volunteers Wranglers. Our Wranglers are college-aged and older folks from different schools and communities that partner together to be a living presentation of the gospel. Wranglers have the opportunity to interact with guests as they serve on ropes, in the store, or as lifeguards.
If you are interested in serving as a Wrangler, please fill out our Wrangler Interest form. If you have wrangled before and would like to serve again, please sign-up on the Wrangler Schedule. If you have any questions or would like more information, contact us.
